What binds the IHD team together is a genuine desire to get it right for the customer – after all, there’s no room for compromise in something as important as jewellery.
We all love nothing more than the look on someone’s face the first time they see their brand new piece of jewellery, or hearing stories from people who have proposed with an IHD ring. We also get great satisfaction from working with clients to transform old family jewellery which they wouldn’t wear into something they can not only wear, but treasure and proudly pass down to the next generation.
The face behind the business name, Iain studied jewellery-making at Bradford College, going on to get his silversmiths degree from Sheffield University. His graduation project – a silver tea set designed and made around the concept of spheres – was snapped up by a London socialite who then commissioned him to make other bespoke pieces of jewellery for her.
IHD was born in 1996 and Iain initially made collections that were stocked in several independent high street jewellers across the Uk. Frustrated by the lack of choice and information offered by the high street stores, in 2010 he changed direction, preferring to deal with the customers directly.
These days Iain designs and advises on jewellery, but doesn’t get too hands-on in the making of it. He looks after clients when they come to the studio, providing his expert input to the design process and ensuring they can make an informed decision about their purchase.
Iain’s favourite pieces are more extravagant designs and he also loves coloured diamonds.
Karl has worked in the jewellery business since he was 15, working his way up and learning his craft sitting at jewellery benches. He started his career in Kent before sensibly relocating to Yorkshire about 10 years ago.
Karl both designs and makes IHD jewellery. He’s a whizz on our new 3D visualisation software and can create beautiful images of your ring, earrings or other jewellery so you can agree every detail of the final design.
He likes the little details, which makes Karl perfect for spending hours shaping and polishing a ring, or placing stones in a wedding band just so. Karl’s favourite pieces are the more unusual ones which push his skills to the limit and he hopes one day to make his own watch from scratch (we reckon that would do it!)
Wedding industry expert Nicky keeps us all organised and makes sure customers are looked after all the way through the process. She arranges which wedding fairs we attend and is the face of the business when networking in her role as business development director.
Nicky is genuinely interested in people so is the perfect person to chat to brides and grooms at wedding fairs to understand exactly what they’re looking for and what will suit their personalities (and budget).
Having been involved with weddings for decades – she still does a select amount of wedding photography – Nicky was a natural fit for the IHD team when we were looking to expand and has been with us since 2013.
You’re most likely to meet George at a wedding fair as she helps man the IHD stand, mainly because she loves talking weddings with excited brides and grooms!
Chatty, genuine and down-to-earth, George combines her love of weddings with her penchant for all things sparkly to help brides and grooms choose their perfect rings. She’s great at breaking the ice and starting a conversation to find out what’s really important to the curious couples and has been on the IHD team since 2012.
A recent addition to the IHD team, Donna helps things run smoothly in the office, acting as Iain’s PA and making sure we promptly respond to all customer enquiries. You might speak to her on the phone if you call to book an appointment in the jewellery studio.
Donna did a business course at college and brings with her extensive experience of giving great customer service. She joined us from the finance industry because she was looking for a role which allowed her to be part of delivering a great customer experience.Make An Enquiry
