We’ve always got our eye on the next big thing in jewellery and it’s fair to say that nothing influences jewellery trends like a Royal engagement. So here’s our round-up of what we think will be 2018’s biggest engagement ring trends.
Last year Prince Harry chose to use diamonds from some of his mother’s jewellery, in the engagement ring he presented to Meghan Markle. He enhanced the two brilliant cut stones from Princess Diana’s collection, with a larger SHAPE stone from Botswana.
We have helped many clients incorporate family jewellery, or stones into new pieces and expect this will be a big trend in 2018. For example, Glamour of the Kill guitarist Mike Kingswood was a client of ours, who remodelled his mum’s engagement ring for his partner. Mike’s mum was delighted with the idea, and was so pleased that her jewellery would be kept in the family. To read Mike’s full story, click here.
Stacking rings have been in evidence for a few years mainly in costume jewellery, and now the trend has moved over to investment jewellery.
We regularly make shaped wedding bands to complement the unusually-shaped engagement rings we design, so aren’t surprised that stacking engagement and wedding rings is becoming a thing.
Our CAD service is perfect for designing your engagement ring’s perfect partner. Whether it’s an eternity ring or shaped wedding band, we can craft something made-to-measure to sit beautifully with your existing rings.
We’ve seen a surge in different shapes of stones as the centrepiece for engagement rings, and think this will continue throughout 2018.
Tipped to be big this year are oval and pear-shaped stones, take a look at our guide to diamond cuts if you want to see all the options.
Pear shaped diamonds are brilliant for elongating fingers and make a real statement when set with diamond-set shoulders.
Oval diamonds have a vintage vibe and look amazing when in a halo setting, surrounded by smaller diamonds.
For an added contemporary twist, have your stone set east-west (that’s jewellery-speak for sideways).
In the end, what you choose should come down to what you love. It doesn’t matter if the ring you end up with is the height of fashion or a classic, as long as you love it. Why not come to see us in our newly-revamped studio to discuss your options?
